Adoption Update

Here is just a quick update on the adoption. Last week, we were sent a ton of paperwork to complete and send to the agency. Also with the packet, were finger print cards. So, off to the sheriff's office to get fingerprinted. The officer that actually did the fingerprinting was asking us why we needed the finger prints, and it turns out, he and his wife just adopted in January of this year! He was so excited for us, and truly happy that we were adopting! We got those sent off, and all of our paperwork to the agency. On Friday (July, 23rd), I got a phone call from the agency saying that they met with the birth mom and that she had been having contractions for the past few nights! So there is a possibility that the baby could come sooner than August 10th! I was super excited, and all week, I have thought that the baby could be coming at any time. Well, it is a week later, and still no baby. She had a Dr. appointment on Monday, and they said everything looked good, but that the contractions were not strong or regular enough yet. She has another Dr. Appointment this Monday, so maybe we will find something out then. I asked Andrew this week, when was too early to pack the baby's bag? He said I needed to at least wait till he was born, since we still have an additional 5 days to wait after the birth. I am just so excited, and I'm trying to find stuff to do to fill my time. I'm not allowed to shop, since we still havne't even had our showers yet, and they won't be for a few weeks after we get home with him. I do need to find a "coming home" outfit for the little guy, but I'm waiting until we get the word that he is officially ours. I don't want to buy an outfit especially for him, and then something happens with the adoption, and we don't bring him home. I am trying to keep myself very guarded, just in case. There is always the chance that something could happen. When we started the adoption process, everyone told me, guard your heart, and prepare for heartache. So that is what I am doing. It is a lot easier to give your whole heart at the right time, then to take back your heart after you have already given it away too early.
Andrew and I are so excited, and can't wait to finally hold that little baby in our arms! Please continue to pray for us as we wait for the baby to be born. Pray for the Birth Mom as she has makes this decision. Pray for a healthy delivery, and a healthy baby boy. Pray that the 5 days we wait to go pick him up, will go by quickly, with no incident. And pray that we come home with our son. Thanks so much for all of your prayers and encouragement.

Baby Book

I have always looked forward to filling out a baby book for my children. Putting all the pictures, and documenting all of the "firsts" in their life. One thing about adoption though, is that you can not use a traditional baby book. So, I went on-line and was able to find two different baby books, specifically for adopted babies. I was so excited to find them. I picked the one that I liked the best, and ordered it here. I wasn't sure that I would love it, but the options were so limitedWell, I got it this week, and I love it. It is perfect! I can't wait to start filling it out.
Here are just a few of the pages that are in the book.

Made with Love for my Son!

I made a blanket and hat to send to the baby while he is in temporary care before we get there. If I can't be there with him, at least he will have something that I made with love for him, and will smell like Mom and Dad!

Nursery Before

I figured since I posted pictures of what my plans for the nursery are, I would post pictures of what it looks like now.
This is the view looking in from the hallway.Kelly gave me the swing and Becky gave me the toys. The boxes are full of clothes from Sarah and Kelly that are 6-9 month size.
This is the view standing in the closet. The black chair will not be staying. It is very uncomfortable, and doesn't rock. It was a freebie, and now it is time to give it to someone else.
Here is the view of the closet from the far corner of the room.
That large book case isn't staying in the room either. We just don't have anywhere to put it right now, so we will move it later, when we figure out where to put it.
Here is the view from the other corner looking out into the hallway.
Toby wanted to be in this picture.
And here is the closet. Andrew put in the shelves a few weeks ago, and I love them! He did a wonderful job!
Almost everything in the closet was given to me. I have bought a few outfits. It's hard not to shop, when you are expecting a baby. I have however, started stocking up on diapers. I figure you can never have enough of them.
I am so excited to start transforming this room into the nursery I have always dreamed about!

Nursery Ideas

I wanted to share some pictures of the nursery bedding and furniture that we have picked out. We will not be purchasing any of it until we have the little guy home. They recommend not doing any major nursery decorations, until you have a baby to put in the nursery. Which, we agree, is a good idea. There is always a chance that the birth mother could change her mind, we are praying that she doesn't, but there is always that chance. OK, moving on to the fun stuff. The bedding we have registered for is at Pottery Barn Kids. The minute I saw this bedding, I fell in love with it.

The furniture is from JC Penny's. I have looked everywhere for a standard crib, and I finally found one I love at penny's. We are going to get it in the Cherry color, which is shown in the bottom two pictures.

As far as other decorations go, I haven't really decided. I know we will be adding a rocker/glider to the room, but still haven't found one that we like. We want it to be comfortable, but we also want it in leather. I also need to find some curtains that I like.

So, what do you think? Cute, huh? I'm just so excited to get the baby home! One month from tomorrow is the due date!

A little more detail

Well, I promised more information, and here it is. Sorry it has taken almost a week to post an update.
First, here is an overview of our time line
May 1st - Decided to Adopt
May 11th - Information meeting at Night Light Christian Adoptions
May 14th - Met with Special Link Adoptions
May 18th - Mailed our application to Special Link.
- Homestudy scheduled for June 18th. Started the paperwork for our homestudy.
June 8th - Got an e-mail from our agency about a possible situation but we needed to move up our homestudy.
June 9th - Homestudy
June 13th - Homestudy officially approved.
June 25th - Got the CALL! A birth mother has chosen us to be the parents of her baby boy.
August 10th - Due Date for our little boy!
Everything moved so fast, but worked out better then I could have planned. We know this is what God's plan is for our lives right now. Who else could have orchestrated everything so perfectly.
Please continue to pray for us as we wait for our son to be born. Please pray for the birth mother as she makes this decision. We will be traveling to Alabama to pick him up 5 days after he is born. The birth mother is given 5 days to change her mind. I know those will be the longest 5 days of my life.
We are so excited about becoming parents, and can not wait to meet our son!!
