More Name Blocks...

This past weekend, I worked on some more name blocks. I got the inspiration when I was in Hobby Lobby on Friday and was looking at the scrapbook paper. They has several different Black and Cream printed paper, and that got me thinking about how cute that would be as a background for some blocks, with some black letters. Then I went to the paint department and found some "antique black" and "buttermilk white" paint for the blocks. I had it all planned out in my head, and it came together perfectly! I am so excited about how these turned out! Right now, I have them on top of our TV cabinet, but I may move them to the mantel. I have so many more ideas, I can't wait to try them all out!

Look what my Cricut can do...

On Friday night, Kelly and I got together with some other ladies for girl's night out. It is always a lot of fun to get together with other women and do something crafty. Well, Kelly is going to Disney next week, and was checking out my Disney cricut Cartridge. There are 6 different characters that can be cut out, and in the book, it showed how to layer them with different colors to make them look really cute. Well, we didn't have time to figure it out on Friday night, so Sunday night, I got out my cricut and the book, and I figured out how to do it. I think they turned out so cute, and can't wait to use these in my Disney Scrapbooking.

Shriner's Circus

On Thursday, I went to the Shriner's Circus with my family. We went last year too.
Papa, Lindy and Leilani watching the show.
Will, Lindy and Charlie
Charlie and Becky enjoying the circus.
Here is Jalen enjoying a funnel cake, and Charlie giving him a strange look. This year, instead of lions, they had bears. They did all sorts of things, like pushing each other in a buggy, riding a motorcycle, walking on their hind legs, and somersaulting around the ring. They were really cute. At intermission, my Dad, Charlie, Will and Jalen went and got their picture taken with the bear.
There were also two giant elephants. Henry rode the elephant, but I wasn't able to get a picture.
We all had a great time, and look forward to going again next year.

Making Progress - 1 Month Down

It has been one month, and if you noticed, my countdown on the right has been slowly changing. I have walked 35.74 miles so far! I figure I should do a weekly post on how I have done for the week.
So, this is my update for last week:
Wednesday 1.0
Thursday 1.5
Friday 5.85
Saturday 1.75
Not so good, I know... But I did bust my butt on Friday. I was trying to make up for slacking off at the first of the week.
I did buy a pedometer last week, so now I am tracking how much I walk while at work. So, even if I don't get a chance to go walking after work, I can at least count the little bit I do during the day.
Also, Kelly gave me her treadmill, and I have been able to use that on the nights that I don't get home till after dark. She didn't actually give it to me. I'm just hosting it at my house because they are starting to run out of room at their house.
My sister-in-law, Amy, is walking with me, and she is kicking my butt! Go check out her blog to see how she is doing!
I have two more months to go the additional 244 miles! That is a little over 4 miles a day. Not sure if I will be able to do that, but I sure am going to try!

Wooden Name Block Tutorial

Here is how I made the Name Blocks for Lydia.
Step 1: Start with a 2x4.

Step 2: Cut the blocks to the size you need. I pre-measured the letters to know what size to cut the blocks. (My dad did the actual cutting. Thanks Dad!)
Step 3: Sand the blocks. Andrew has this power sander, and it got the job done very quickly.
Here are the blocks after I finished sanding them.
Step 4: Paint the blocks. I chose pink and green to match the nursery decor. I used just regular craft paint, nothing fancy. I did have to do 2 coats though.
Step 5: While the paint is drying, cut out scrapbook paper for the front of each block. I cut the paper a little shorter than the actual block. I just thought it looked better that way.
Step 6: Cut out the letters. I used my Cricut to cut them out. I actually did this first, to know what size to cut the blocks.
Step 7: After the paint has dried, glue the paper to the block and then glue the letters to the paper.
Step 8: After the paper has adhered to the block, use Mod Podge to seal the front of the blocks. Allow that to dry, and Ta Da! You are finished!

I am so excited about how these turned out! Someone else needs to have a baby so I can make another set.

Lydia Claire has Arrived!

I got a text at midnight on Saturday night that said Jessica's water broke, and that the baby was on the way! I didn't get much sleep that night, I was so excited! This is the first baby for our little group of friends. Not for long though, since Julie's little boy will be here in just a few months! Jessica gave birth to a 8 lb 10 oz beautiful little girl on Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon, Jennifer and I went to the hospital to meet Baby Lydia.
I can tell she already loves her Aunt Fer and Toot Toot!

The blocks I showed the other day were a gift for the new baby. Here they are displayed in the hospital room. I will give a full tutorial in another post.
Welcome to the World Lydia Claire!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Growing up, St. Patrick's Day was always a major holiday in our house. Mom would cook Corn Beef and Cabbage, and Dad would hide gold outside and tell us that a leprechaun had left it for us. It was always so much fun. This year, we will be eating the big family dinner on Sunday. I missed out on it last year, since I was in Europe. Hope you have a great St. Patrick's Day!
